Chondroitin and glucosamine for healthy joints.

There are a number of nutrients available that provide the vital components for healthy joint structure and function and ease of mobility. These nutrients are referred to as “chondroprotective agents,” and include glucosamine and Chondroitin. These supply the raw material necessary to produce new cartilage, and may even help rebuild worn cartilage.

A lot of scientific evidence is available about the beneficial activity of chondroitin and glucosamine on the condition of the joints. Chondroitin and glucosamine are both components of normal cartilage. In joint disease, the cartilage is damaged. When the cartilage that cushions the joints breaks down faster than the body can replace it, osteoarthritis develops. Without this protective tissue, bone rubs painfully against bone, causing tenderness, swelling, and stiffness.

Greenlipped mussels are used as natural source of glucosamine in Husse products.

The supplementation of glucosamine and chondroitin is indicated in older dogs and large dogs. Older dogs often have stiff articulations because aging causes cartilage breakdown. Also, large dogs often have joint problems, as due to their higher body weight, the cartilage has to absorb heavier forces.
